Materials & Liner Types

Choosing the correct liner material is fundamental to blast performance, running cost, and service life. Material selection should reflect abrasive type, duty cycle, operator handling conditions, and cost-per-hour considerations — not simply purchase price.

Tungsten Carbide (TC)

Best suited for:

Heavy-duty, general-purpose field applications where robustness matters.

Advantages:
  • High toughness and impact resistance
  • Handles rough site conditions and accidental drops
  • Cost-effective for mineral abrasives
  • Reliable all-round performance

Typical use: Steel grit, expendable mineral abrasives, mixed-site environments.

Silicon Carbide (SSiC)

Best suited for:

Long blasting shifts where weight reduction improves operator control.

Advantages:
  • Lighter than tungsten carbide
  • Higher wear resistance than TC
  • Reduces operator fatigue over extended periods
  • Strong cost-to-performance balance

Typical use: Continuous blasting operations, general mineral abrasives, productivity-focused sites.

SiAlON (Advanced Silicon Nitride Ceramic)

Best suited for:

Demanding, continuous-duty applications requiring both toughness and extended wear life.

Advantages:
  • High fracture toughness
  • Less brittle than boron carbide
  • Lighter than tungsten carbide
  • Excellent combination of wear resistance and mechanical strength

Typical use: Multi-shift production blasting, high-output industrial environments.

Pressureless-Sintered Boron Carbide (B₄C)

Best suited for:

General-purpose blasting applications where low nozzle weight, strong wear resistance and good overall value are required.

Advantages:
  • Lightweight and comfortable for extended use
  • Excellent wear resistance with garnet and mineral abrasives
  • Suitable for steel grit, subject to operating and handling conditions
  • Cost-effective alternative to hot-pressed boron carbide
  • Good balance of service life, weight and purchase cost

Typical use:
Garnet, steel grit, crushed glass, mineral slags, expendable mineral abrasives and mixed-site applications.

Hi TUF Hot-Pressed Boron Carbide (B₄C)

Best suited for:

Highly aggressive blasting applications where maximum wear life and low nozzle weight are required.

Advantages:
  • Premium hot-pressed boron carbide construction
  • Exceptional resistance to abrasive wear
  • Recommended for aluminium oxide and silicon carbide
  • Longer service life in demanding and continuous-use applications
  • Lightweight compared with traditional tungsten carbide nozzles

Typical use:
Brown, white and pink aluminium oxide, silicon carbide, bauxite, emery, garnet and other highly aggressive abrasives.

Important:
Although hot-pressed boron carbide offers outstanding wear resistance, it remains a hard ceramic material and should be protected from impact, dropping and rough handling.
